www.NiceMike.com - by Michael J. Lake

I am a dangerous person who might kill, according to a national group of over 100,000 members.  I said they were acting like a hate group or a cult because of their claims about me.  So, they took me to court.  The court accepted their claims and refused mine.  Why did they claim I was dangerous?  It was because I have a mental illness, manic depression, properly called Bi-Polar Mood Disorder.*

Mental illness means "dangerous", "criminal", "sick", "unwanted", and other disturbing things to many people.  I have experienced the full force of these stereotypes.  At the worst, I have considered death as an escape because of these images.  The result was more harassment because "thoughts of death" prove you are dangerous.  See for yourself, I provide evidence of what has happened to me on this website:

1.  Am I dangerous? - The difference between a Terrorist and an Activist.

2.  My army experience - Diagnosed with mental illness and punished for it.

* I can not blame the group because they were only following the traditional views of the mentally ill.  My real fear was that someone from this group would follow what has happened in history, and injur or kill me.  It did not matter to police or prosecutors that I was the victim of harassment for having a mental illness.  I was given no rights!  Why should they care about me?  They did not know me and I was the sick person with mental illness. .Click here to see the letters from the Bowling Green Ohio Prosecutor

"Who teachs the mentally ill to deal with society?  Who do you blame when they fail?"

I did not understand that the Americans with Disabilities Act, the ADA, protected the mentally ill until after I suffered a physical disability.  Why did none of the people treating me for mental illness mention the ADA?  Treatment is not enough!

Consider this:
I have survived the actions against me without support or an advocate.  I first learned to deal with mental illness in the Army, where I was punished for the problems that resulted (see my army experience).  When problems started in the civic group, I had to act as my own advocate.  I was told to explain my motives which only resulted in more claims against me.  I was accused of being a stalker for answering their questions!  Their evidence against me supports this truth.

The civic group would not accept that I was seeing was hate from their members because I was mentally ill.  In court their lawyer made it clear that the mentally ill are dangerous and not wanted by the group (see #3 above.).  I verbally answered the questions of the complaint, then the judge decided otherwise and settled for the plaintiff's without letting me make a defence as he had promised!  Check the court records!  Did I not deserve due process because I was mentally ill?

The lessons that I have learned are:
1.  The legal system does not respect the rights of the mentally ill, and shows prejudge and a lack of ethics.
2.  Society has demonstrated conduct twards the mentally ill which is no different than that of hate groups.
3.  The mentally ill can not rely on compassion, justice, ethics, or understanding to protect them.
4.  You might be better off hiding, and not being treated for, mental illness.
Only if the legal system and society can change their distructive infulence on the mentally ill
would I suggest that it is worth diagnosis and treatment.  Look at my experiences.

My doctor believes that I am getting too emotional in trying to make my point.  When I tried to be calm and logical no one listened.
